Production of ESKO ceramics

I take great care in partnering with organisations with a commitment to ethical standards and preserving artisan skills within the community. I’m proud and thoroughly grateful to work with an incredibly talented, professional and caring team to realise ESKO products – collaborating with them was key in turning the initial concepts into reality and achieving a highly-crafted product. Their work can also be found in many high-end hotels and retail shops such as Aman Resorts, Bvlgari Hotels, and Armani Casa, amongst many others. There is also a certain depth in knowing each piece is made in a supportive community environment.

The ceramics themselves are individually hand-made using a combination of methods, on the wheel and by hand using high-grade durable porcelain. The quality is apparent on first touch—their texture, weight and balance. They are delicately proportioned yet strong and durable with a textural feel that is as beautiful as they are a pleasure to use.

Once the clay is formed, it undergoes a series of firing and glazing steps to achieve the final piece. Every piece is fired to 1280 degrees to ensure a highly durable and functional product, suitable for the dishwasher, microwave and oven. After the first samples are made, an initial prototype is sent to me and from there, a few adjustments and technical issues may need to be resolved, always with a high degree of care and attention to detail.

Apart from bringing the designs to life, a lot of time and effort is spent working on perfecting the glazes with my manufacturer, as I believe colour has the ability to affect our mood, environment and ultimately, our wellbeing. Subtle, earthy palettes are always chosen for its ability to provide calm and warmth.

It is with this deep respect for high craftsmanship and the uniqueness of the handmade process, that permeates through all ESKO ceramics and I hope that you enjoy them as much as I have loved creating them.
